Another big step for Vainglory today on its path to become a force in the world of eSports: Team Alliance, one of the top teams in Vainglory, has been acquired by Team SoloMid (TSM).
TSM is a name that should be familiar to anyone who follows the eSports scene. As one of the most prominent eSports teams in North America and the world, they are best known for having appeared in the League of Legends World Championship every year since its inception in 2011. Before the acquisition, TSM had 5 teams competing in League of Legends, Hearthstone, Counterstrike, Super Smash Bros. and Call of Duty. It is interesting to note that rather than acquiring a DOTA 2 of Heroes of the Storm team, they decided to charter new territories in getting a team in Vainglory. This is the first Vainglory team in North America to have been acquired; eSports teams SK Gaming, Team Secret, and G2 eSports have the top three teams in the EU.
It’s also worth noting though that Team Alliance is not just any team. Made up of Nick “CullTheMeek” Verolla (jungle/lane), Mico “MICSHE” Dedicatoria (lane/jungle) and Michael ‘FlashX’ Valore (roam), Team Alliance are the reigning Vainglory world champions and the No.1 seed for the upcoming North America Winter Live Championship. With the Winter Championship coming up in just days, this acquisition probably will have little effect on the team other than perhaps a little added pressure to come out on top. But in the long run, Team Alliance’s integration into TSM will definitely help the team in many aspects (game analytics, free from financial burden) and put them in a position to succeed for many years to come.
I would expect that many other eSports teams will take note of this acquisition, and look to quickly sweep up the other top talents currently in Vainglory. Will GankStars Sirius, Vertigo, and/or Halycon Hammers soon be acquired as well? Only time will tell!
